Flexible or Alternative Fuel Vehicles

Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs), also referred to as Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) are designed to run on E85 ethanol fuels. Most manufacturers have been producing these vehicles since the 90's and has recently become a selling point in marketing campaigns to highlight alternative fuel vehicles and their ability to run on E85 ethanol fuels.
Oddly enough, according to the Energy Information Administration, more than 4 million alternative or flex fuel vehicles are driving on U.S. highways. Even further, many owners have no idea that they own a flex fuel vehicle, and do not know they could be using E85 ethanol fuels.
Since the first flexible fuel vehicles were produced in 1991, it may be wise to revisit your owner's manual or check the door of the gas tank to see if any information is given to indicate whether or not you own a flexible fuel vehicle.
Ford, General Motors, Daimler Chrysler and others have flexible fuel vehicles on the market. If you have the opportunity, give E85 ethanol fuels a try and help the environment.
