BIOGAS Investment Info

What is Biogas? Thinking about investing in Biogas but don't know what it is? Biogas is often referred to as swamp or landfill gas. It has what many consider a pungent odor and is readily identified as a component in the air surrounding areas where naturally occurring organic decay is happening. Biogas is produced by the decay of organic matter in an environment that contains little to no oxygen. Typically this naturally occurring bacterial decay is underground or in areas where the access to oxygen is limited by gas displacement.
Biogas is primarily composed of methane and carbon dioxide. Biogas typically contains 65 % methane, which makes it a promising source of alternative fuel since methane is combustible and can be converted to other energy forms. The controlled decay of organic matter provides a necessary service to man as it converts waste and harmful bacteria into potential fuel sources and raw material for other uses. The beauty of Biogas is in the fact that it is a natural process and works on basically any organic waste (Crop waste, lawn clippings, septic tank waste and even your household trash). The energy is not free but the conversion process can be managed and enhanced to increase the efficiency and in turn makes the process more cost effective.
Methane can be used directly as a fuel to produce electricity or converted to other fuels via various chemical processes. One of the most notable potential uses of methane is in the conversion of Methane to Hydrogen by exposing the methane to high temperature steam in a catalyst driven reaction to yield Hydrogen and carbon monoxide.
Many countries and companies are beginning to recognize the opportunity that Biogas holds. Biogas is rapidly expanding internationally as a viable cost effective alternative fuel and could present a great opportunity for investors who are interested in conservation, green fuels and sustainable future growth.
