Biobutanol Information

A biobutanol partnership has been announced by DuPont and BP in which they will develop advanced biofuels. This is partnership is stated to have the mission of producing biofuels to help meet the world's demand for renewable fuels, with biobutanol being the first product coming from the partnership.
Biobutanol can be blended in gasoline. Biobutanol has low vapor pressure, which allows it to be blended into gasoline at higher levels than current biofuels.
DuPont and BP hope to release biobutanol in the UK by 2007. Work is already in progress to produce biobutanol in a UK facility.
Advantages of biobutanol include better fuel economy than other biofuel blends and there is no need for modifications to vehicles when used as a gasoline blend. Additionally, biobutanol has environmental advantages over current transportation fuels.
DuPont and BP combined have the technology necessary to produce biobutanol, which should allow them to get biobutanol to market quickly.
